We care about the environment and our impact on it. In over 20 years of service, we have identified the most environmentally responsible methods of doing business.
Roy Cowie LBS is committed to recycling and reducing our landfill waste wherever possible. This is an envirormental and economic commitment.
We have identified, through our 24 years of business, the various types of waste our business processes produce and have introduced recycling solutions for all waste. All site waste goes back into our own recycling centre where it is processed. No waste produced is sent for third party processing so we know exactly what happens to all the waste we produce. We are constantly looking at our waste and alternative ways of recycling.
All green waste is shredded and composted. The compost produced is then blended with soil to produce nutrient rich top soil for use in our landscaping projects.
All material dug out from our work sites is processed at our recycling facility. Soil is screened to remove rock and stone. The screened soil is then improved using the compost we produce. All rock and stone is crushed and re used as base material for patios and driveways.
We also have instilled a recycling ethic at our main office and yard to ensure that wherever possible we reduce our waste.
Roy Cowie LBS Ltd aim to:
- Promote limits in the use of paper and other consumables used within the office and yard.
- Wherever possible the purchase of recycled materials and those which are suitable for disposal by recycling.
- Minimise waste by encouraging the exchange and reuse of equipment and materials amongst departments.
- Use suppliers with sound environmental principles and positive recycling and waste management practices.
- Develop a waste management strategy which accommodates recycling procedures and initiatives.
- Continue to develop and improve the range and scope of recycling schemes we offer.
Roy Cowie LBS Ltd is committed to reducing its carbon footprint.
In 2012 a substantial financial investment was made, solar panels were installed in order to generate as much energy as possible for our main yard. The panels generate more than enough energy to provide all the electricity required at our main office and yard. A surplus of energy is produced which is then fed back into the national grid as green energy.
Our daily transportation is planned carefully to ensure that all journeys are necessary. All vehicles are fitted with tracker systems. This has ensured that no vehicles will sit idling over at any time during the day. A recent case study indicated that you can avoid 0.5 tonnes of CO2 emmissions per vehicle each year by introducing anti-idling measures, as well as improving local air quality, lesson noise and reduce environmental health risks in the community.
We are looking into the addition of electric powered vehicles to add to our fleet of vehicles. Best practice is applied to the use of all company vehicles.
We have introduced cordless battery powered tools throughout our teams. Equipment such as hedge trimmers, strimmers, leaf blowers and chainsaws, which have traditionally been petrol powered, have been replaced with battery powered alternatives. These tools have reduced our reliance on fossil fuels with the battery powered alternatives being charged by electricity generated by our own solar panels.
As the technology of battery powered equipment improves, we will continue to look to replace our existing fossil fuel powered equipment where ever possible.
