Living in the North East of Scotland we are lucky to be surrounded by a wide variety of tree species. In domestic gardens, woodland and throughout public spaces the many shapes and sizes of tree enhance our experience of the outdoors. At this time of year, all are stilll in leaf and mostly still green – a great opportunity to stop and take a look.
So, with the school holidays coming to an end, the coffers maybe a little on the ‘light’ side, why not get out and about, involve the kids in some tree identification? The Woodland Trust has a fantastic app that guides you through the process of identifying a tree looking at characteristics such as bark, leaf or fruit. There are also lots of other reference resources on their website
